Getting Prepared For The Cooler Weather |
Michigan winters can be tough on a home, and a little preparation now can help you avoid big and often expensive repairs later. Before the temperatures drop, take some time to inspect your roof and gutters, clean out leaves and debris, check your furnace and HVAC system, seal drafts around windows and doors, disconnect outdoor hoses, and make sure your pipes are properly protected. Taking care of these small maintenance items now can help prevent problems like water damage, frozen pipes, roof leaks, and heating system failures, repairs that can quickly range from a few hundred dollars to several thousand dollars, depending on the issue. For example, a minor roof repair might cost $300–$1,000, while significant water or winter damage can easily reach $5,000–$15,000+. A little time and preventative maintenance today can go a long way toward protecting your home and your wallet this winter.

🍂 Take a Fall Walk on the Michigan Air Line Trail |
Looking for a beautiful way to enjoy the changing colors this fall? The Michigan Air Line Trail in Wixom is one of our favorite local spots to get outside and take in the season. This scenic, paved rail-trail stretches approximately 7.5 miles through Wixom, Walled Lake, and Commerce Township, following the former Michigan Air Line Railway corridor. The trail was created by transforming an unused railroad corridor into a safe, multi-use pathway, giving the community a place to walk, run, bike, and enjoy nature while also connecting local neighborhoods and businesses. What makes the Air Line especially unique is that it’s part of a much larger trail network. It connects directly to the Huron Valley Trail to the west and the West Bloomfield Trail to the east, with additional connections toward the M-5/I-275 Metro Trail. The Huron Valley Trail itself extends about 13.5 miles and connects Wixom with South Lyon, Lyon Township and Milford-area destinations, creating access to more than 25 miles of connected regional trails. Even better, the Air Line is part of Michigan’s 270-mile Great Lake-to-Lake Trail, which connects the Lake Michigan and Lake Huron regions. The trail also has a fascinating history: it takes its name from the historic Michigan Air Line Railway, dating back to the 1880s. Local communities began working to transform the unused railroad corridor into a recreational trail in 2009, and the final phase was completed in 2023. Today, the trail runs right through Downtown Wixom, making it easy to combine a fall walk or bike ride with a stop at a local restaurant, coffee shop, brewery, or other downtown business. |
A Family Trip To The UP. |
Real estate is so much more than buying and selling homes...it’s about people, relationships, big life changes, and being trusted to walk alongside someone during an important chapter of their life. I never take that trust for granted, and I’m incredibly thankful for every client, past and present, who has allowed us to be a part of their story.
My family and I recently returned from a trip to the Upper Peninsula with my wife and our three kids, and it was a great reminder of just how special Michigan really is. Some of our favorites were the Pictured Rocks boat tour, Tahquamenon Falls and Oswalds Bear Ranch. From the lakes and forests to the small towns and incredible scenery, there is so much to explore right here in our own state. I’ve always loved being a Michigander, and trips like this make me appreciate it even more. If you haven’t explored the UP lately or if there’s a part of Michigan you’ve never visited, I’d encourage you to make a plan and go discover it. You might be surprised by how much adventure, beauty, and great memories are waiting just a few hours from home.
